Earth & Fire

So that’s how she does it. I wondered. We’ve been pushing the boundaries as long as we’ve existed in communities. The Pacific Coast Highway has been plastered with homes as far as would allow for years now. It’s hard to find a section of beach without a home claiming it as their own. At least it was. Nature has had enough. Mother is scolding her children.

We abused our privilege of life. Thinking that the gift held no responsibility. And so that’s how she does it. She just wipes us off her surface. Shrugs her shoulders. Snips the scissors. Tosses the trash. And burns the disobedient. It’s like the edges of the map are slowly smoldering away. Shrinking us down until we remember just how insignificant we are. The bigger picture.

The Earth. The Multiverse. And yet it truly is the end of the world for so many. For me. For you. For everyone’s children, and their children and their children. That’s how she does it. She just says no thank you, as she wields the Flameflower. And now we must do all things differently.
